After tests at the hospital John had been diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. He was to go into hospital for a major operation 28th December, the first operation did not go well, and within two days he was back in theatre. He was then in intensive care unit, and had chest infection, as well as a problem with the healing of his wounds and so progressed into septicaemia, which took his life on the 20th January 2007.
